What is the replacement method for the Antminer KS3 BM2380AA ASIC chip?

2024/5/24

The BM2380AA ASIC chip, adopting 7nm technology, boasts excellent energy efficiency and hash rate performance, ensuring the stable operation of the miner.

BM2380AA ASIC chip replace

If the BM2380AA chip is damaged, it may lead to low hash rate or even 0 hash rate in the Antminer KS3 miner, affecting mining efficiency. Promptly replacing the faulty chip is the best choice to quickly restore the miner's normal operation.

Follow these steps can quickly replace the BM2380AA ASIC chip:

1. Disconnect the powering of the Antminer KS3 miner, wait for cooling to avoid burns. Remove the protective shell above the miner, dismantle the conductive copper sheets and the cooling fan at air outlet, unplug the hash board cables, take out the faulty hash board.

2. Carefully remove the heat sinks from both the front side and back side of the hash board, then clean the thermal paste and dust on the surface.

3. Use an Antminer test fixture to locate the faulty chip position.

4. Find the location of the faulty BM2380AA chip and apply non-washing flux around its pins.

5. Once the constant-temperature heating platform reaches the preset temperature (around 300°C), place the hash board on it for heating. When the solder around the chip pins starts to melt, carefully remove the fauty BM2380AA chip using a tweezer.

6. Use a cooling fan to cool it down after move the hash board to an insulating pad. Next, use lead-free board cleaner to remove solder residues from the chip pads.

7. Use the chip tin tool to evenly apply solder to the new BM2380AA ASIC chip. You can click here learn how to use tin tools.

8. Apply a little flux to the solder pad at the fault location. Place the hash board back on the heating platform for heating, melting the solder on the chip pads. Use a tweezer to align the new chip's pins with the pads, continue heating until the solder wraps around the chip pins, and then gently press the chip for a few seconds. Finally, move the hash board to an insulating pad for cooling and cleaning.

9. Use a multimeter to check the ground resistance of the new chip pins to ensure good soldering. Subsequently, test the single hash board using a test fixture to ensure successful chip replacement.

10. Use thermal grease to evenly apply on the front chip surface and back of the hash board, and then install the heat sink.

11. Place the hash board back into the miner's chassis, install the conductive copper sheets and fans, connect the relevant cables.

12. Install the upper protective shell of the miner, reboot it to test its operational status.

These steps can help us replace the BM2380AA ASIC chip of the Antminer KS3 miner quickly, making our mining journey more efficient and hassle-free! Promptly replacing faulty chips is crucial, as it helps reduce downtime, avoid losses in mining efficiency, and thereby safeguards mining profits.
