BM2382AA ASIC chip replacement method for Antminer KS5 hash board

2024/5/24

The BM2382AA chip is used to replace the faulty ASIC chip on the hash board of the Bitmain Antminer KS5 Kaspa miner, effectively solving the problem of 0 hash rate or low hash rate of the miner. This helps restore hash rate operation of the miner, enabling miners to achieve normal profits.

Antminer KS5 ASIC chip BM2382AA replace

If the BM2382AA ASIC chip is damaged, it may lead to a decrease in mining performance or stop mining, and report error etc. Timely replacement of the faulty ASIC chip is a crucial step to ensure the normal operation of the miner. Once a faulty ASIC chip is detected, a new standby chip should be replaced immediately to reduce the downtime of the miner and the risk of further damage.

When the Antminer KS5 miner's BM2382AA ASIC chip is falied, the following steps can be followed for quick replacement:

1. Disconnect the powering, remove the protective cover plate on top of the Antminer KS5 miner, remove the conductive copper sheet and the cooling fan at air outlet, unplug the hash board cable, then take out the abnormal hash board to place on an insulating pad.

2. Carefully remove the heat sinks from the both side of the hash board, clean any residual thermal grease and dust on the surface of the hash board with a dust-proof cloth and circuit board cleaner.

3. Use Antminer test fixture to quickly locate faulty chips.

4. Find the faulty chip and apply non-washing flux around its pins.

5. Preheat the heating platform (set at approximately 300°C). Once the preset temperature is reached, place the hash board on it for heating. When we see the solder around the chip pins starting to melt, gently clamp the chip with tweezers and slowly lift it until it is removed. If you don't know how to use the heating platform, please check Usage methods and precautions of the constant temperature heating platform.

6. Move the hash board to the insulating pad and cool it with a cooling fan. Then, clean the solder residue on the chip pads with circuit board cleaner.

7. Use a chip tin tool to evenly apply tin to the new BM2382AA ASIC chip.

8. Place the tinned chip on the pads and add flux, then place the hash board back on the heating platform for reheating. When the solder on the chip pads melts, use tweezers to align the new chip pins with the pads to correctly position the chip. Continue heating until the tin wraps around the chip pins. Gently press the chip with tweezers for a few seconds and move the hash board to an insulating pad for cooling.

9. Once the hash board has cooled, use a circuit board cleaner to clean the hash board, ensuring a clean soldering surface.

10. Use a multimeter to test the ground value of the new chip pins to ensure no shorts or opens. Subsequently, use a test fixture to test the single hash board to ensure successful chip replacement.

11. Use thermal grease to evenly apply on the front chip surface and back of the hash board, and then install the heat sink.

12. Place the hash board back into the miner chassis, install the conductive copper sheet and fan, and then connect the relevant cables.

13. Install the protective cover plate on top of the miner, connect the miner power cord, power on the entire machine for operation.

By timely replacing faulty BM2382AA ASIC chips, we can ensure the continuous efficient operation of KS5 miners, thereby safeguarding miners' profits and investments. I hope this guide helps you successfully complete the ASIC chip replacement, bringing your miner back to a stable mining state for continuous profits. Wish you a pleasant mining experience with abundant rewards!
