How to quickly replace the B20 ASIC chip on Antminer L7 hash board?

2024/6/6

Bitmain B20 ASIC chip is commonly used to replace faulty chips on Antminer L7 hash board. With excellent hash rate and power consumption of B20 chip, the L7 miner performs exceptionally well in the Scrypt algorithm mining field, providing miners with a reliable mining experience.

Under long-term high-speed operation of the miner, chip wear and aging are inevitable. When the L7 miner experiences 0 hash rate or low hash rate, it is mainly due to ASIC chip failures. At this time, immediately replacing the new chip is the most economical-efficient option.

The specific replacing steps for the B20 ASIC chip are as follows:

1. Disassemble the protective shell of the miner, remove the conductive copper sheets and the cooling fans at the air outlet, disconnect all cables, carefully take out the faulty hash board, then place it on an anti-static insulation pad.

2. Remove the heat sink on the front side of the hash board, next use an Antminer test fixture to accurately locate the faulty chip.

3. Clean the area where the faulty chip is located, then apply flux to its pins.

4. Remove the small heat sink on the back side of the hash board corresponding to the faulty chip.

5. Adjust the temperature of the hot air gun to around 400°C (second gear wind speed) to heat the chip. Once the solder on its pins has melted, gently clamp and remove it with tweezers.

6. Use a cooling fan to quickly cool the hash board, then clean the remaining residue on the board with a circuit board cleaning solution.

7. Use a tin planting tool to evenly tin the new B20 ASIC chip.

8. After placing the tinned chip pins align with the solder pads on the hash board, add an appropriate amount of flux.

9. Heat again until the solder completely covers the chip pins. Gently press the chip with tweezers for a few seconds to ensure stability. Cool and clean the hash board.

10. Use a multimeter to check the signal grounding value of the chip to ensure that the soldering is satisfactory.

11. Evenly apply thermal paste to the surface of the replaced chip and reinstall the heat sink.

12. Place the hash board back into the miner case, install the conductive copper sheets, cooling fans. Power on the miner to check its operating status.

As a fragile components of Antminer L7 miner, keeping an appropriate stock of B20 ASIC chips can not only quickly restore the normal operation of the machine but also avoid further losses caused by its failures.
