How to correctly replace the BM2042AA ASIC chip for the Antminer K7?

2024/6/6

The BM2042AA ASIC chip is used to replace faulty chips on the Antminer K7 hash board. Due to the different hash rates of the K7, the ASIC chips used also vary. As a cutting-edge product for cryptocurrency mining, the BM2042AA ASIC chip boasts a hash rate that is more than three times higher than its closest competitors, making it ideal for miners to mine the Nervos (CKB) cryptocurrency.

When a BM2042AA ASIC chip fails, the miner's hash rate will be 0 or very low. Replacing the faulty ASIC chip can help miners quickly resume normal operations, providing a smooth and profitable mining experience.

The specific steps for replacing the BM2042AA ASIC chip are as follows:

1. Disassemble the Antminer K7 miner and take out the faulty hash board: Remove the protective case, use a screwdriver to unscrew the fixed screws of the conductive copper sheet and the exhaust fan, unplug the cables. Take and place it on the anti-static insulation pad.

2. Find the faulty chip: Use a test fixture to quickly find the damaged chip, remove the heatsink, and clean the hash board.

3. Desolder the damaged chip: Preheat the constant temperature heating platform to approximately 300°C. Please refer to the How to use the constant temperature heating platform article for usage. Apply a no-clean flux around the damaged chip pins. Place the faulty chip area of the hash board on the heating platform. When the tin on the chip pins starts to melt, gently grip the chip with tweezers and take it out.

4. Place the hash board on a repair station to cool, and then use circuit board cleaner and dust-removing cloth to remove soldering residues.

5. Tin the chip: Use a chip tinning tool to evenly apply tin to the new BM2042AA ASIC chip.

6. New chip soldering: Apply a small amount of flux to the chip's solder pads. If the tin on the pads is insufficient, add a small amount of tin. Use tweezers to pick up the new chip and align its pins with the solder pads. Then heat the solder pads with the heating platform until the tin adheres to the chip pins. Gently press the chip with tweezers for a few seconds to ensure tight contact between the chip pins and the solder pads. Remove the hash board from the preheating platform, cool it with a cooling fan, and thoroughly clean it.

7. Chip testing: Use a multimeter to check the ground value of the chip signal to ensure qualified welding. Then use a test fixture to check the status of the hash board to ensure successful chip replacement.

8. Full-miner testing: After evenly applying thermal grease to the chip surface, install the heatsink on the hash board, place it back in the miner box, assemble the miner, and conduct a power-on full-miner operation test.

Note: The material of the miner's hash board differs, so some tools for replacing chips may also be different. Please replace according to the corresponding miner hash board and chip model.

Replacing a damaged BM2042AA ASIC chip can restore the miner's performance, stability, and efficiency, thereby increasing mining income and protecting investments. This is one of the key steps in maintaining and optimizing an Antminer K7. In the field of cryptocurrency mining, mining efficiency and performance are crucial.
