How to replace the Avalon A3200SV2 chip?

2024/6/18

The Avalon A3200SV2 chip is designed to replace faulty ASIC chips on the Avalon 1166 pro hash board. Canaan pays special attention to reducing power consumption when designing this chip, enabling miner to mine efficiently while reducing electricity consumption and operational costs. This chip is not only suitable for individual miners but is also widely used in large-scale mining farms. The chip is also known for its high reliability and durability, maintaining stable performance under long-term high-load operation.

Avalon A3200SV2 chip failure may cause the following phenomena:

a. Hash rate decreases significantly below normal levels. Mining equipment becomes unstable, frequently restarting, crashing, or disconnecting, unable to maintain continuous stable operation.

b. Abnormal chip temperature rise, difficult to cool down even under normal heat dissipation conditions, which may be due to overheating caused by internal chip faults. Sudden increase in power consumption of the device, possibly caused by abnormal energy consumption due to short circuits in the chip's internal circuitry.

c. Frequent error messages or warnings in the miner log, suchas checksum errors, hardware errors, etc., which may indicate chip faults.

d. Some hash boards (containing multiple chips) in the miner do not work, resulting in a decrease in the overall hash rate of the miner, which may be due to one or more faulty chips.

Avalon hash board troubleshooting

(According to the test fixture log, the ASIC chip number 80 is faulty.)

e. The miner cannot connect to the mining pool or the network normally, possibly due to communication issues caused by the chip fault.

f. The miner is completely unresponsive and cannot run normally even after restarting. It may be that there is a serious fault in the chip.

When the above phenomena occur, check and confirm the cause of the fault. If it is confirmed to be a chip fault, the faulty chip needs to be replaced.

Procedure for replacing the A3200SV2 chip:

1. Find the abnormal hash board, disassemble the miner, and take out the hash board, placing it on an anti-static device to cool down.

2. Remove the heatsink from the hash board and locate the faulty ASIC chip.

3. Use cleaning fluid to clean the area around the chip to be replaced and apply flux to the pins.

4. Preheat the constant temperature heating platform to 300°C and place the faulty area on the platform for heating.

5. When the solder on the chip pins begins to melt, gently clamp the chip with tweezers and remove it.

6. Place the hash board on a repair station, use a cooling fan to cool it down, and then clean the solder residue.

7. Take out the new A3200SV2 chip and check if there is any damage. If there is no problem, use the tinning tool to tin the new chip.

8. Apply a small amount of flux to the solder pads. Use a heating platform to melt the tin on the chip pads. Align the chip pins with the solder pads, continue heating until the solder paste covers the chip pins. Gently press the surface of the chip with tweezers to ensure a good solder joint between the pins and the pads.

9. Cool the hash board and clean off the solder slag and flux with a circuit board cleaner.

10. Check the grounding values of the chip signals to ensure a good solder joint. Use a test fixture to check the status of the board. If the test is successful, the chip replacement is successful.

11. Apply thermal paste evenly on the surface of the chip and install the heatsink on the hash board.

12. Place the hash board back in the miner box, assemble other components, and power on the entire system for testing.

Replacing the Avalon A3200SV2 chip quickly and effectively can solve miner faults, restore the normal hash rate of the miner, then improve its overall performance and economic benefits.
