Installation tutorial for Whatsminer M50 water cooling plate

Whatsminer M50 miner have attracted much attention in the mining field due to its excellent hash rate. However, high-speed operation inevitably generates high heat, and prolonged high-temperature environments not only affect the performance of the miner but may also damage internal components. The M50 water-cooling upgrade kit is a perfect solution to this problem.

The water-cooling upgrade kit for the M50 miner cleverly utilizes the high heat capacity characteristic of water to provide an efficient heat dissipation solution for the hash board. It drives the liquid circulation through a water pump, effectively removing the heat generated by the hash board and ensuring that the miner maintains optimal performance during high-load operation. Additionally, the upgraded M50 miner no longer relies on cooling fans, significantly reducing the noise interference caused by their high-speed operation, and creating a more silent mining environment for miners.

The specific steps for Whatsminer M50 upgrading water-cooling (retrofitting the water-cooling plate on the chip side) are as follows:

1. Power off the miner, unplug the fan plug, remove the protective cover plate above the control board, disconnect the corresponding cables, and then dismantle the air inlet cooling fan.

2. Remove the adapter board, unscrew the fixing screws of the conductive copper sheet, then carefully take out the three hash boards, and place them on an insulated workbench.

3. Remove the heat sinks on the front of the hash board, then use a dust removal cloth dipped in the circuit board cleaning solution to remove residual thermal grease and dust from its surface.

4. According to the length of a row of ASIC chips on the hash board, cut the Whatsminer thermal conductive silicone strip to a suitable length (about 30 cm), and then stick them to the chip surfaces, ensuring a tight fit without bubbles and gaps. Then place the front side water cooling board aligned with the hole positions and fix its screws. (For better heat dissipation, we can also replace the heat sinks on the back of the hash boards with the water cooling blocks. Here we need to use 4W thermal grease to assist heat dissipation.)

5. Retrofit the other two hash boards with the same method. After that place them back in the miner case.

6. Install the parts removed previously, connect the cables, and insert the 4pin fan speed simulator into the control board's corresponding interface to replace the original cooling fan.

7. Cut the water pipes into about 10cm-15cm small sections, which connect the water-cooling plate interfaces to the 1~3 water separators.

8. Assemble the water cooling row: Fix the radiator base and the pump bracket, then put the water pump into the bracket and snap on the corresponding buckle. Use a water pipe of appropriate length to connect the water pump inlet and the upper water outlet of the water cooling radiator.

9. Use a water hose to connect the external radiator's water pump outlet to the upper separator, then connect its water inlet to the lower one, using hose clamps to make sure the connections are tight.

10. Once all water pipes and accessories are securely connected, add water-cooling liquid to the radiator water pump until the water level no longer drops. Start the radiator, continue adding coolant until the water level stabilizes and the highest water level inside the pump is about 10cm from the top.

11. Power on the miner to check its operating status.

Note: To prevent air bubbles and damage to the pump, it is recommended to fully insert the water inlet pipe into the pump when installing the pump.
