How to upgrade Avalon A1346 to a water cooler system using a water cooling plate?

Retrofitting the Avalon A1346 miner with a water cooling system maintains low temperatures of the equipment and improves mining performance. The water cooled plate installed on the A1346 hash board is made of aluminum through integral welding. The main working principle of liquid cooling is to use a water pump to drive the liquid to circulate forcibly, removing heat and maintaining low temperatures, which helps ensure that the hash board does not burn out instantly in emergency situations.

This article takes the installation of water cold plates on both the front and back sides of the Avalon A1346 hash board as an example:

1. Required accessories:

Water-cooled heat sink radiator * 6

Miner water cooling radiator transparent silicone hose * 2

Water cold water separator * 2

Clamps

Thermally conductive grease 8W/mk 110g * 3

4.5KW or 8KW ASIC water cooling radiator * 1

Avalon fan simulator * 2

2. Install the liquid cold kit:

a. Cut off the power to the miner, disassemble the shell, remove the exhaust fan and conductive copper bars, and take out the three hash boards.

b. The Avalon A1346 hash board is an aluminum substrate. If we install one water cooling plate, we only need to take the heat sink from one side of the front or back.

c. Clean the dust and thermal grease from the front and back of the hash board. If conditions permit, apply 8.0W thermal grease to the ASIC chips on the hash board using a mold, install the front water cooled plate; evenly apply thermal grease to the back using a scraper, and then fix the liquid cold plate on the back of the hash board.

d. Repeat the steps of installing the water cooled plate, and after all hash boards are installed, place them inside the miner, connect all cables, then ensure that the positive and negative terminals of the conductive copper sheets are not installed incorrectly.

e. After installing the water cold system, the previous cooling fans are no longer needed, but to simulate the fan speed, the fan speed simulator needs to be connected to the control board fan interface.

f. Cut the water pipes into 12 short pipes and 2 long pipes, connect 6 short water pipes and 1 long water pipe to each of the two 1-to-6 water separators, then use quick connectors to fix the 6 short water pipes to the interfaces of the liquid cooled plates.

Note: If only one side of the water cold plate is installed on the hash board, only 2 water separators with 1-to-3 holes are needed, the water pipes are correspondingly reduced to 6 short pipes and 2 long pipes.

3. Install the external water cooling circulation system:

a. Install the base and water pump bracket on the water cooling radiator and fix them, then install the water pump.

b. Connect a long water pipe on the water distributor to the water pump outlet and the upper splitter, which is the water inlet of the water cooled plate; connect the other water pipe to the water inlet of the radiator and the lower splitter, which is the water outlet of the water cold plate.

c. When adding coolant to the water pump for the first time, stop adding when the coolant level in the pump is 5cm from the highest point of the pump. Power on the circulation system and the miner. At this time, the coolant in the water pump has flowed into the water cooling plate. The water level will drop during the first operation. We continue to add coolant until the water level stops dropping. In this step, cooling thermal fluid will be used multiple times, so we can prepare a few more bottles.

Observe for a period of time. If there are no problems, the installation of the water cooling kit is complete.

The retrofitted Avalon A1346 water cooled kit requires regular maintenance and management, including cleaning the heat dissipation radiator and replacing the water pump, to ensure its long-term stable operation.

Upgrading to a water cooling system effectively reduces noise pollution, providing miners with a quieter operating environment. Additionally, installing a liquid cooled kit can reduce the power consumption of miners, extend their service life, and provide miners with a good mining experience and sustained profitability.
