The Whatsminer M31 82T water cooling plate adopts an aluminum-based design. Compared to traditional air cooling methods, water cooling technology can dissipate heat more quickly. Steps for modifying the water cooling system for Whatsminer M31:
Parts: Water cooling plate * 3, water separator 1 to 3 * 2, hash board slot aluminum bars * 6, silicone water tubes * 2m, main water tubes * 2m, several clamps and screws
1. Disconnect the powering, disassemble the protective shell, remove the fan, control board, adapter board at the air inlet, take out the conductive copper bar, unplug the connecting cables, and remove the 3 hash boards.
2. Remove the heatsink fixed on the front of the hash board and use a dust cloth with cleaner to remove the thermal paste from the surface of the ASIC chip. After cleaning, after cleaning, apply 4.0W thermal grease on the back of the water cooling plate. According to the length of a row of ASIC chips on the front of the hash board, cut a thermal silicone strip of about 30cm and neatly stick it on the surface of the chip.
3. When installing the water cooling board, align it with the hash board and secure it with screws. Repeat the steps of removing the heatsink and installing the liquid cooling plate for the other two hash boards. After installation, carefully and accurately push them back into the miner box.
4. Reinstall all the hardware removed earlier in the order from inside to outside. This includes the conductive copper bar, cables, adapter board, and control board. Pay attention to correctly connecting the positive and negative terminals when fixing the conductive copper bar. Since the air-cooled cooling fan is no longer needed, we need to connect the fan speed simulator to the control board to simulate fan speed.
5. A complete water cooling circulation system also requires the assembly of an external radiator. We need to install the base and water pump bracket on the radiator and then install the water pump on the bracket. Completing this assembly will facilitate the next step of water pipe connection.
6. Cut the silicone hose into six short tubes of the same length of about 12 cm, and cut the hard main water pipe into two long tubes of the same length.
7. Connect three short silicone water tubes to the 3 interfaces of one water distributor, and connect one main water tube to the 1 interface on the other side. Repeat the same installation for the other manifold. Secure the other end of the six short water tubes to the interfaces of the three liquid cooling boards using hose clamps.
8. Connect the main water pipe of one water distributors to the water pump outlet and the upper splitter, which is the inlet of the liquid cooling plate; connect the main water pipe of the other piece to the radiator inlet and the lower splitter, which is the outlet of the water cooling board.
9. Add coolant to the water pump. When adding coolant for the first time, the liquid level should be about 5cm from the top of the pump. Turn on the water radiator, and when the system starts running, the coolant in the water pump flows into the water cooling plate. The water level may drop during the first use, so continue to add coolant until the water level no longer drops.
Note: To prevent air bubbles and damage to the pump, it is recommended to fully insert the water inlet pipe into the pump when installing the pump.
