Replacement tutorial for Whatsminer M60 miner KF1973E chip

2024/6/26

With its superior algorithm and outstanding performance, the KF1973E ASIC chip has become the best replacement for WhatsMiner series miners. The optimized algorithm not only ensures the efficiency of the mining process but also guarantees the stability of the miner during long-term operation, greatly improving mining efficiency. Additionally, it adopts a low-power design, effectively reducing machine power consumption, which achieves maximum profits during the mining process. It is not only suitable for the newly launched Whatsminer M53 M60 miners but also for M50 series models such as M50, M50S, etc.

KF1973E chip of Whatsminer M60 hash board

Once one or more KF1973E chips on a hash board fail, the overall hash rate of that board will be affected, resulting in an extremely low hash rate even 0 hash rate, affecting the mining efficiency of the miner. In such cases, we should immediately detect and replace the faulty chips to help the machine restore its optimal hash rate operation.

Taking the M60 miner as an example, here is the replacement method for the KF1973E ASIC chip:

I. Removing the faulty hash board

1. After shutting down the miner, unplug the power cord to ensure safety.

2. Unplug the inlet fan connector, remove the fixing screws of the control board, then disconnect its connecting cables to remove it.

3. Disassemble the air inlet cooling fan and its baffle.

4. Remove the adapter board, then unscrew the fixing screws of the conductive copper sheet, after that take out the hash board that needs to replace the damaged chip.

II. Replacing the ASIC chip

1. Remove the heatsinks on the hash board, next clean and remove dust from the board.

2. Use a test fixture to locate the faulty ASIC chip.

3. Apply flux around the pins of the chip.

4. After preheating the constant-temperature heating platform to the set temperature (around 300℃), place the hash board on it to heat. When we observe the solder melts, gently lift the chip up with tweezers to remove it.

5. Move the hash board to an insulating pad and quickly cool it with a cooling fan, then clean the residue on it with washing board water.

6. Check the pins condition of the new KF1973E ASIC chip to ensure it's intact.

7. After tinning the new chip, place its pins align with the hash board soldering pad and add an appropriate amount of flux.

8. Use the heating platform to heat the hash board, gently press the chip with tweezers to ensure a secure connection. When its pins solder appears full and shiny, remove the board from the platform, wait for the solder to solidify before moving the tweezers.

9. Cool and clean the hash board with the same method as step 5.

10. Check the soldering condition of the new chip to ensure good soldering.

11. Use a multimeter to test the single-board status to ensure that the chip has been successfully replaced.

III. Assembly and testing

1. After fixing the heatsinks on the back of the hash board, evenly apply thermal grease on the surface of the newly replaced KF1973E chip and install the front heatsinks.

2. Place the hash board back into the miner case, then tighten the fixing screws of the conductive copper sheet.

3. Insert the adapter board correctly, then secure its fixing screws, then install the inlet cooling fan and its baffle.

4. After connecting the corresponding cables to the control board, align it with the screw holes, after that tighten the fixing screws.

5. Connect the air-inlet fan connector.

6. Power on the miner, observe its operating status and ensure that it achieves the expected hash rate through its background logs.

With the continuous development of the cryptocurrency market, mining technology is also making progress. Among them, the performance and efficiency of miners are key factors determining revenue. With its excellent characteristics, the KF1973E ASIC chip provides stable hash rate support for the miner's operation, helping us to gain a foothold in the mining competition.
