The BM2040 ASIC chip designed for Antminer K5 is specifically tailored for high-performance hashing tasks in cryptocurrency mining. It boasts excellent performance and efficient energy utilization, reducing operational costs while ensuring computational efficiency. It is an ideal choice for areas such as cryptocurrency mining.
A faulty BM2040 ASIC chip will directly affect the miner's mining efficiency and profits, leading to a decrease in hash rate, increased energy consumption, and subsequently higher operating costs and lower mining income. Therefore, ensuring the normal operation of the ASIC chip is crucial for miners.
Here are the steps to replace the BM2040 ASIC chip:
I. Locate the faulty chip
● Check the background logs to see if there is a faulty ASIC chip on the hash board. If so, proceed to the next step.
● Disconnect the powering, remove the protective shell of the miner, uninstall the exhaust fan, unplug the cables, use a screwdriver to remove the screws on the conductive copper sheet, and take out the faulty hash board.
● After the hash board cools down, remove the heatsink and clean the dust on the surface with a cleaning brush.
● Use the Antminer hash board test fixture to accurately locate the faulty chip.
II. Desolder the faulty chip
● Apply no-clean flux around the pins of the faulty chip.
● Set the heating platform to 300℃, place the back of the hash board's faulty chip area onto the platform, and heat it until the pin solder melts. Use tweezers to carefully remove the chip. Be careful during this step as the heating platform is hot and may cause burns.
III. Clean the hash board
● Turn on the cooling fan and place the hash board on it for cooling.
● Then, use lead-free board wash solution to carefully clean the solder residue on the board, ensuring a clean surface.
IV. Solder the new chip
● Before soldering, use a chip tinning tool to evenly tin the new BM2040 ASIC chip.
● Use tweezers to hold the chip, align its pins with the hash board's solder pads, and add flux.
● Place it back on the heating platform, use tweezers to press the chip, and heat it until the solder completely covers the chip pins. Wait until the pins are shiny and well-soldered, then remove the hash board.
V. Assembly and testing
● Use a multimeter to check the grounding value of the chip signal to ensure no false soldering. Then use the hash board test fixture to test the single board to ensure the successful chip replacement.
● Evenly apply thermal paste on the chip surface and install the heatsink.
● Place the hash board back into the miner's enclosure, install the conductive copper sheets, cables, and cooling fans in order from inside to outside.
● Turn on the powering of the entire miner and check if the performance has returned to normal.
Promptly replacing the faulty chip on the Antminer K5 hash board with a brand-new BM2040 ASIC chip can effectively extend the miner's service life and ensure its stable operation. Failing to replace the faulty chip in time will compromise the miner's profits, thereby extending the miner's payback period.
