After days of unrest, major Bitcoin miners in Kazakhstan have resumed 80% to 90% of their production, according to reports, Alan Dordjiev, head of Kazakhstan’s National Blockchain and Data Center Industry Association. But Bitcoin’s overall hash rate (which dropped by more than 10% following the January 5th internet shutdown in Kazakhstan) has been slow to recover and is still 17% below its peak (around 205,000 PH/s). However, Dordjiev said that miners are working hard to restore production to total capacity in the shortest possible time, and we expect the situation to stabilize within a week fully. Note: According to the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance estimates last fall, Kazakhstan has 18% of the world’s bitcoin hashrate, ranking second only to the United States globally.
