The boost converter operates at a fixed switching frequency of 600kHz to reduce output ripple, improve conversion efficiency and allow the use of small external components.
During operation, the LED current can be controlled via the CTRL pin using a single-wire digital interface (EasyScale protocol). Alternatively, a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal can be applied to the CTRL pin, with the duty cycle determining the feedback reference voltage. In digital or PWM mode, the TPS61161DRVR does not burst the LED current; therefore, they do not generate audible noise on the output capacitor. Furthermore, for maximum protection, the device features integrated open-LED protection to prevent the output voltage from exceeding the absolute maximum rating of the device during an open-LED condition.
