According to Tom's Hardware insider Komachi, AMD may use the APU from the obsolete PS5 in an expensive virtual currency mining rig. According to Komachi, an ASRock BC-250 mining rig with 12 AMD BC-250 mining cards may contain the APU found in a defective Sony PS5 console. The CPU is not listed on the product page, which means that the CPU portion of the PS5 APU may be used for tasks not related to mining. The device uses 15GB of GDDR6 memory, the same as the PS5. One of the reasons cryptocurrency miners choose this rig is that the performance of the BC-250 is not limited by the LHR limiter like the Nvidia RTX 30 series graphics cards. However, previous reports have shown that the limiter did not hinder mining behavior much.
