According to a statement Thursday, a special economic zone called Prospera on the island of Roatan is reportedly using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a form of payment for individuals and businesses. The move comes after neighboring El Salvador was the first country to ratify bitcoin as legal tender on Sept. 7. Established in 2020, Prospera is a privately managed settlement in Honduras with its political system at the judicial, economic and administrative levels. Previously, the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) denied that Bitcoin would become legal tender in the country.
