Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) investments reportedly attracted new funding in 2021. Such U.S. sustainable funds attracted nearly $70 billion last year, up 35 percent from their pre-2020 highs, according to Morningstar. Furthermore, according to a survey by Betterment, 80% of investors who hold ESG-themed investments also hold cryptocurrencies. In contrast, only 22% of those without ESG-themed investments in their portfolios hold cryptocurrencies. ESG investors are more likely to belong to the younger generation, with 54% of Gen Z and millennials holding these investments. That compares with 42% of Baby Boomers and 25% of Gen Xers.
