Tether CTO Paolo Ardoino reportedly appeared at the opening of the Lugano Plan B forum with Lugano Mayor Michelle Foletti, seven months after the two teamed up to bring widespread bitcoin usage to the city, Ardoino said that 40 merchants are already using cryptocurrencies with point-of-sale systems. While that might not seem like a vast number, the goal has always been to achieve adoption in a "scientific way." Ardoino noted that, as many politicians do, one official said it was one thing to support Bitcoin. But developing a plan behind those words is a different project entirely. Rather than using it quickly and at scale, it's more about getting the initial adopters to work correctly and smoothly. He now expects 1,000 Lugano merchants to use bitcoin point-of-sale in their operations by the first quarter of 2023.
